Chiffon with bunting
My mumma is the queen of making asian desserts so I was under a lot of pressure when I decided to made this pandan coconut chiffon cake for her birthday (what was I thinking digging myself into a hole like that?). Fluffy, fragrant and not too sweet – she loved it! Now that made me happy! She really liked my homemade bunting sign too and kept it – no idea what she’s done with it since.
I made a cupcake bouquet for his Mum’s birthday using this as a guide. Lucky I had a foam ball lying around. The only thing it would fit in was the smallest cake tin I had (talk about make shift) but it worked perfectly!
Everyday I’m Rufflin’
My first ruffle cake wasn’t perfect but it did look kinda cool. Lesson for next time? Make sure you over-compensate on icing. It’s not fun trying to make more icing (and getting it to the exact same texture and taste; doesn’t help I don’t measure ingredients) when you’re only half way through icing a cake..
Happy 2nd Birthday Mia
This was a labour intensive cake and in the end I am proud of how it turned out (although far from perfect). The balloon cake pops at the back really made the cake, and I’m so glad I decided to put them on. Note: the Dora characters are not edible nor are the balloons that Dora is holding.
For mother’s day this year I made a very simple vanilla layer cake with raspberry jam (yes, store bought) and whipped cream. This is simple flavours at it’s best.
Black Forrest Layer Cake
I had no idea how to make chocolate shards so improvised. I melted chocolate and spread it out on some baking paper and then when set cut it to desired shapes. You can see they started melting – I was so nervous and my hands were hot! One day I’ll actually temper chocolate… maybe.
This is a very personalized cake as I tried my very best replicating the four kids who were being Baptised. Although out of proportion, the figurines ended up being somewhat cute (I think?). I love the plaque! I didn’t have a choice to do it any other way as I needed to include a lot of text.
Pandan Petal Cake
This isn’t the prettiest thing I’ve made but after seeing raspberri cupcakes and her attempt on the petal icing technique I bookmarked it immediately for a later use. There’s definitely room for improvement, but not too bad for my first go. This was for the bestie’s grandma.
Purple Ombre Rosettes
Who doesn’t love the ombre look? I made this cake for thesuzchef’s baby shower. Hidden underneath the purple coconut buttercream rosettes is yet another pandan chiffon cake. I couldn’t help but pair those 2 flavour combinations together. Thank you for letting me make your cake, S xoxo
A Piggy Onsen Spa
(Design adapted from Taartjes)
I saw a photo of this cake and I knew I had to make it for his sister who turned 30, and who also happens to be born in the year of the pig. It’s such a cute cake so how can you resist not making what I like to call a piggy onsen spa cake ;)
With his brother in law being a tennis fanatic and opening up his own tennis business Everything Tennis, this cake was the perfect way to celebrate his 30th birthday. The birthday boy made an appearance on court at his very own ‘Doan Cup’ and with a gummi bear crowd cheering him on! Woo hoo!
A One Month cake
It’s so girly and cute that it’s hard not to squeal that little bit. Thank you S for asking me to make a cake for such an important event to you and your family xx
Me want cookieeeeeeeeeeeeee
One of the most fun cakes I’ve made to date! Piping of the fur had to be done quick and I had patches falling off (nooo, cookie monster was balding haha) but he survived. The crazy eyes get me all the time..
Tonka Truck Cake
This is a vanilla layer cake with milo ‘dirt’ icing and honeycombe ‘rubble’ falling out of a tonka truck toy (not edible) that I made for my nephew Leon. This wasn’t the cake I was supposed to make him (he didn’t have a choice really haha) but I could see his obsession for trucks so I completely changed the idea. In the end, this was the perfect cake for him because when he saw it, his eyes lit up, pointed at the cake and said “twuckkkkkkkkkkk”. It made my heart smile.
