I seem to be venturing out to different suburbs these days and I’m loving all the amazing finds so far, with big thanks to our friends who no longer are our neighbours.
Chosen by the locals, we make our way to My Chinese Kitchen on the restaurant filled Burwood Road.
Like Ginger & Shallots, there is the option to order from the a la carte menu or do a set menu. Tonight we opt for the set menu for 4 people, that is, 4 choices for $63.80 from an allocated list for pure convenience.
Complimentary Watercress Soup with Egg
A light delicate soup has never been so comforting before. I’m a huge fan of watercress soup as I’ve grown up with it at home.
Complimentary Gai Lan
Sweet & Sour Pork Chops
Not your normal bright red sweet and sour sauce that you’re used to, but instead it was more vinegary, sweet and sticky. An unusual taste but it somehow keeps you going back for more.
Spice Salt Pork Chops
Well seasoned fried pork chops have just the right amount of chilli salt to leave your tongue tingling. It may look dry, but the pork was still rather juicy.
Seafood & Beancurd Hot Pot
I find so much comfort in hot pots – from the tender vegetables, soft bean curd (tofu) and the seafood which for some reason is always cooked spot on. It may not be the freshest seafood used, but it still tastes decent (and not like rubber or plastic at least).
Spice Salt Flounder
Love a good crispy fried flounder fish topped with garlic, chilli and shallots. It really did feel just like home! We demolished this poor but delicious fish in no time, leaving just the bones. I should have taken a before and after shot to show the damage done. Sorry little fishy…
So if that wasn’t enough, we thought we would order another dish as it was highly recommended by our other friends.
Pork Ribs in Special Shallot Sauce $18.80
It comes to the table served as a whole, but then our waitress breaks the ribs up ever so easily with a spoon and fork.
Tender, fatty, juicy and delicious glistening pork ribs (almost pulled pork like) bathe in a special shallot sauce and absorb all the possible flavours. I can’t be sure on the exact cooking method of this dish but all you need to know is that it is just fantastic and should be ordered without question! Your taste buds will thank you for it.
Our Feast for Four
We all stuffed our faces silly, and my dining companions even managed to drink just over a bottle of wine each (free BYO) and yet there were no left overs. Solid effort I’d say!
Good food, great value and good company – we could not have asked for a better Friday night.
Looking forward to visiting some other places in Burwood
