A trip to Melbourne feels incomplete without a visit to one of the most talked brunch places, The Hardware Societe. I’ve been told queues and wait times can be quite lengthy so we purposely make the trip to Hardware Lane bright and early like as if we were city workers, lol.
We time our visit perfectly and get seated right away.
Absolutely love the decor of this place – it’s dainty, it’s quirky, it’s fun.
Coffees $3.50 each
We begin our early morning with some coffees. As mentioned in a previous post, for some reason coffee just tastes better in Melbourne. It must be the holiday factor.
Scrambled Eggs $19
with moreton bay bug meat, zucchini and preserved lemon tortilla and aioli
The Boy steers away from the typical ‘big breakfast’ and treats himself with some scrambled eggs and what is pretty much a fancy sandwich. It has moreton bay bugs, zucchini, a preserved lemon tortilla (I usually associate tortilla with flatbread but don’t know what it is in this case) and aioli.
The eggs are fluffy, creamy and delicious. The sandwich too was full of deliciousness, particularly the fresh and sweet flesh of the moreton bay bugs.
Baked Eggs $17
with Chorizo Sausage, piquillo pimento sauce, crunchy almonds, queso de cabra goats milk cheese
I can’t go passed the baked eggs. Warned that it was straight from the oven I let it cool down a bit before digging in. Perhaps I left it too long because by the time I dipped my bread into the little pot, the eggs were cooked through and no longer runny. So sad.
The chorizo added a nice salty element which offset the creamy goats cheese, with the almonds giving some much needed texture. Not the best baked eggs I’ve had, but still good enough for me to eat the whole thing.
We enjoyed dining at such a cosy little restaurant. We didn’t feel rushed at all despite the queues ever growing outside. It’s a shame we didn’t get to try any of the pastries and other sweets on display but we were content with our breakfast as was.
I’m glad to have ticked this off my Melbourne Eats list. There’s only a handful more to go of my eats in Melbourne to go so stay tuned!
