It rained and poured over the weekend in Sydney – suprise suprise. The wet weather makes me want to stay in, but the boy got me out of my jammies and took me out for some lunch. We’ve both been quite the busy at work so he said we both deserved a treat. What a reward it was with a drive (in the heavy rain) to Mary’s.
It was this review that had him all excited just a week earlier.
A simple, short and concise menu definitely makes things easy.
I thought the Jack Daniel salt shakers were adorable!
Mary’s Burger $14
The burgers come wrapped in grease proof paper and served in a basket with a side of fries – just like the fast food chains.
One bite in and it brings us back to our trip to the USA, namely In-N-Out. The slightly toasted bun is unbelievably super soft and pillowy with a slight sweetness. Wedged inside is a beautifully charred beef pattie with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and Mary’s special sauce. It was truly amazing.
Fried Chicken – Half Bird $16
The chicken is also served in a basket. The batter is beautifully crunchy (and you can clearly hear it when taking each bite), flavoured with plenty of southern spices which is pure genius! It definitely had us wanting more and more.
Mash & Gravy $5
Somehow the chefs served the mash and gravy in the grease proof paper sitting in a basket. Simple as it may sound but this mash and gravy is just too good to be true. Soft, silky and buttery mash sits in a puddle of hearty gravy with a subtle meaty flavour.
The whole spread reminded us of the flavours so normal to the USA scene (except the price). It brought back great memories of our amazing holiday. We definitely know where to go when we’ve got the post holiday blues and want a cheer-me-up with a dirty burger, and in this case fried chicken too ;)
