To be honest I didn’t know too much about the concept of ‘boiling crab’ until my cousins told me about seafood being served by the pound in bags. It made no sense to me! There was only one way to sort this problem out….
The restaurant hasn’t even opened yet but we were told to get here early as lines can get really long!
We are the first in the restaurant (too eager) which has an awesome beach shack type feel to the place. It was the perfect setting for the meal we were about to demolish.
A bunch of lemons is dumped on the table. I had no idea what was going on! I felt like it was raining free lemons – we had about 3 mass piles of lemon pieces on our table
Crunchy fries with fluffy potato in the middle, coated in a cajun sprinkle. The best way to start off any meal, even though it does take up stomach space. Who cares, I LOVE HOT CHIPS!
Bags full of food get dropped on the table with not a care in the world… Now it makes total sense!!
Battered Cat Fish
We also order a side of battered cat fish – definitely a tender and flakey fish that worked so well with the bread crumb and spices batter.
1 bag of super sweet and juicy cajun corn
1 pound of cajun shrimp
The shrimp (prawns, whatever) to our suprise were cooked well. It wasn’t dry and had absorbed the cajun flavour. They were relatively plump too so it was great!
1 pound of cajun crawfish
Oh hello crawfish – why you so cute and delicious but so nasty to peel?
There were so many little crawfish in that one bag it felt never ending! They were pretty small and were a b*tch to peel, but the flesh was soooo deliciously sweet and juicy.
And this is our table after 5-6 pounds worth of seafood for 7 adults. We were the dirtiest table there and everyone that walked passed gave us a funny look. I don’t know what people expect when there’s no cutlery provided and you need to peel crawfish and shrimp with your fingers! Our table does look like a garbage bag that’s been tipped out though, haha!
We totally need something like this in Sydney – we sure are missing out! It’s a fun concept, especially with a group. It’s not a place for those who don’t like getting their hands dirty!
I had a manicure earlier that day so got my brother to peel the crawfish and shrimp for me – haha I totally milked it =P
