Having a large extended family means celebrating lots of birthdays therefore group dinners with great company. We celebrate a triple birthday this evening at The Coffee Warehouse Cafe & Deli in Homebush.
We get our own private room which is sectioned off from the cafe and deli. It was rather nice having our own privacy as there was quite a number of us.
As you can see at the back, the Coffee Warehouse hold barista training classes on site. The room set up looks amazing. Perhaps one day I’ll have to try. I do fancy some nice coffee and coffee art.
For tonight’s dinner, we opt for a set menu – $37 per head for food and $21 for unlimited alcohol (beers and selected wines).
We start off with garlic crust. The crust is amazing – it’s crisp on the outside whilst still retaining a delicate and fluffy consistency, with a brush of garlic on top. We had to control ourselves no matter how good it was because of the mass amounts of carbs to come!
The thick ribbons of pappardelle is cooked al dente as the veal osso bucco is braised for 8 hours with mixed vegetables and napoletana stew is grasping on. It was a lovely dish, but I think the osso bucco could have packed a bigger punch.
Again, perfectly cooked linguine, is tossed with mixed seasonal seafood in a light napoletana sauce with garlic, white wine and chilli. This seemed to be a favourite amongst as all as it was light, tasty and flavoursome pasta dish.
To break up all the carbs we get a much needed garden salad.
Pizza time, oh yes! Here we have smoked ham, cabanossi, mushrooms, onion, capsicum, pineapple and olives. What made the pizza fantastic was the base. It was very much like the garlic crust. It was thin, crispy on the outside but still soft on the base. I love me a good crust.
The medium spiced pepperoni was from their own deli. Sadly this pizza was a tad overcooked. The pepperoni was a bit tough to eat and you couldn’t really taste the flavour of the pepperoni. Shame, because who doesn’t love a pepperoni pizza?
Now this pizza was a clear winner amongst us all. This meat lovers had smoked ham, cabanossi, pepperoni, bacon and bbq sauce. Generous toppings with a hearty bbq sauce base. The meats used were from the deli and you can really tell the difference in the taste and quality.
Dinner isn’t complete without dessert! Each person gets a double scoop of gelato which is made on the premises. We had 2 options – dark chocolate and strawberry, or, mango and pistachio. I was lucky enough to taste all the flavours and boy were they fantastic! Smooth and creamy just how gelato should be. I have to say that the pistachio was out of this world. You have to get your hands on it if you ever get the chance.. take the whole tub!
Tea and coffee is also on offer. As I had a shocking of a day, I wanted to indulge in a nice skim cappuccino. I’m no coffee connoisseur but I thought it was great and it definitely hit the spot for me.
All in all, it was a great feed and especially for those drinkers, it was well worth the unlimited alcohol. Though there’s only so much you can drink when consuming so much carbs! I would love to come back to try more from the menu, it all sounds so divine, and the deli looks fantastic too with its range of products and produce on offer.
