In between all the reservations for breakfast, lunch and dinner there had to be several pitt stops made for some snacks. In this case, sweet snacks. I of course already have my list of places jotted down before we even land in the state.
First stop, Burch & Purchese in the South Yarra.
It’s called a sweet studio because not only does it showcase/sell B&P cakes and products in the shop front but there is a kitchen out back where it is all made.
Cake pops, and meringues using freeze dried fruit. I haven’t been able to get my hands on some freeze dried fruit so I snubbed myself a bag! Score.
As we made a visit just before Easter, we were spoilt with easter choices. Fresh hot cross buns, bunny lollipops and chocolate bunnies (all edible) filled up the studio. It smelt amazing!
I was impressed that there was even a frozen goods section – who wouldn’t want a tub of their exquiste sounding flavours?
And of course, I couldn’t leave the store without one of these babies. It has been one of the best purchases I have ever made! Sorry guys, I ain’t sharing.
Second pitt stop – Lux Bite, also in the South Yarra.
I was luckily enough to meet one of the masterminds behind Lux Bite, Yen, who is hiding away behind the plant. We had a brief conversation and it was amazing to see how much passion and love goes into their business. It sure isn’t easy but all the hard work does pay off in the end. They are a true inspiration.
The array of cakes looked incredible. If we weren’t traveling by foot or public transport, I would have bought one of everything!
I was so tempted to get another jar of salted caramel, but the boy did stop me knowing I wouldn’t share .. not even with him. Sigh.
The most gorgeous display of macarons
Top to Bottom: Oreo, Heilala Vanilla Creme Brulee, Sour Strawberry, Watermelon & Guava
Rose & Lychee, Ribena Lemonade, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Bamboo Oolong Tea
The texture of the macarons is spot on for me – soft but still retaining some chewiness. The fillings were all fantastic! I could eat these all day, every day.
Our third and final stop is La Belle Miette, back in the Melbourne CBD.
It is a cute dainty little shop that displays its macarons ever so wonderfully. One peek and it’s so hard not to walk in!
The Easter hot cross macarons looked absolutely adorable, and not to mention perfect!
Moet et Chandon, Pimms & Pomegranate, Earl Grey Tea Chocolate, Violet Blueberry, Mango coconut, Hot Cross Bun
The flavour choices at La Belle Miette were very interesting. I steered away from flavours I could so easily get elsewhere. These macarons all looked so uniform – it really was a true beauty. The shells were a bit softer and more delicate but the flavours really blew me away.
That was definitely one sweet adventure. I can’t wait to try to recreate and/or source inspiration from these great patisseries. Watch this space :)
