After a session of training and running a muck on the field, a group of us toss up between El Jannah and La Mono for a fix of charcoal chicken and garlic sauce (best reward ever, right?). Purely because of our location, we head to La Mono for the convenience. Afterall, we were just down the road.
We arrive 30 minutes before the kitchen closes, so have to be quick putting our order in. But ha, as if the decision is really that hard anyways…
I see tubs and even trays of other sauces.. Mmm I wonder if it tastes any good.
Lebanese Bread, cut up into quarters
You only get one whole piece of lebanese bread per whole chicken, which isn’t very much.
Whole Chicken $21
I think the chicken used here are free range (as there were Lilydale sign boards around) which is probably why the meat is so succulent and tender. It really was a joy to eat, and the skin had just enough charcoal flavour to it (and no burnt bits, yay!)
Garlic Sauce $3.50 each
As we ordered 2 whole chickens, we received 2 tubs of garlic sauce complimentary. We bought another 3 amongst us as some wanted their own. It definitey had a much more potent garlic flavour than others. Whilst eating it I thought it was good, but it was when I stopped that it hit me. Perhaps a little too much garlic in the end which gave a raw and burning sensation afterwards.
Radish and Pickles
Also complimentary are a plate of radish and pickles. Love the tartness that they bring as it really breaks up the hit of the garlic sauce.
Hot Chips $7
And of course, can’t not order a bowl of chips. Crunchy yet fluffy in the middle. Always awesome when eaten with the garlic sauce.
A side of tabouli makes us feel less guilty. It’s considered as a salad, right? Haha I’ve only recently become a fan of tabouli. I used to hate the stuff.. but now, can’t live without it!
So I guess what everyone wants to know is how does it stand up to and/or compare to El Jannah?
I would take away La Mono’s chicken (free range really does make all the difference) and have a large tub of El Jannah’s garlic sauce on the side (no one does it like they do). Does that tell all? =P
