As some of you already know, I’m quite the fitness freak when I’m not at work or when in the kitchen. Eating clean (well, half the time) and training hard are my main goals for 2013 and so far so good. Biggie and I are always trying to mix up our breakfasts, lunches and snacks to maintain our goals. I came across the idea of protein balls from an old primary school friend and was determined to make them myself. Google really is your best friend.
I was not expecting to post this recipe up but at the request of some fellow instagrammers I decided to do so. Please excuse the lack of photos and poor styling.
5 ingredients. 5 minutes. Why wouldn’t you make these little healthy power balls of bliss?
Peanut Butter Chocolate Protein Balls
adapted from Kidspot
½ cup Peanut butter (I used smooth, crunchy would give more texture)
½ cup Protein power *
¼ cup Coconut oil (or honey)
¼ cup Muesli (or oatbran)
Desiccated Coconut
* I used chocolate protein powder. If using vanilla protein powder, add approximately a heap tablespoon of sifted cocoa powder or even leave it as vanilla.
Method:
- Mix peanut butter, protein powder, coconut oil and muesli in a bowl with a wooden spoon until well combined (it should form a big ball).
- Roll into balls of desired size, roll in desiccated coconut and refrigerate until firm
- Keep in air tight container in the fridge
You may need to control yourself because you won’t be able to stop at one. I find myself eating a couple of these on the train ride home from work before hitting the gym. It gives me that little bit of energy before working out.
The good thing about this recipe is that you can adapt it to your liking. Try adding dried fruit, nuts, or even choc chips if you will :)

Oh yay, so glad to see a delicious looking protein ball recipe without almonds! I’ll definitely be giving these a go :)
It’s just too easy not to try :)
Oh wow!! What a great idea!
I am sure my kids would love something like this in their lunchbox!
I bet the kids would love this. It may be chocolately but little do they know that it’s good for them ;)
yummo they sound real good!
Too addictive to even stop at one!
You had me at peanut butter ;) I need to make some of these to keep around the place for a quick hit!
It sure is handy when you’re in dire need to snack on something and gives you a bit of energy.
You think.. oh this is gonna be unhealthy, but then you throw the word PROTEIN in there, and BAM! I’m sold :P
The name sure is deceiving isn’t it? :)
looks yummmmmmmmmmmmmm!
It really is a delicious and healthy treat!
Peanut butter and chocolate is a combination that is way too addictive! Right with ya – I try to eat clean when I’m not eating tonnes of noms (but unhealthy) food out :)
It’s definitely good for our bodies to eat clean. With the training I do at the gym it’d be a waste not to
Yayyyy you shared the recipie! Thanks Tina! Can’t wait to make this as my pre-work out snack! Too awesome.
This will be great pre/post tennis games :)
I’m barely a fraction the health goddess you are but I am trying to turn over a healthy leaf this year! I’ve been buying protein balls (eating one now actually) buuut I think I’d much rather make my own based on your recipe from now on.
Yes. Make them as you can control what’s in them and vary the flavours each time you make them ;)
Too easy! Thanks for sharing this recipe Tina!
You’re welcome. Hope you get around to making them :)
