Double Barrel, Sydney CBD

19 Feb

Located on York Street, Double Barrel is in a prime location for those who work around Wynard and a great meeting point for a coffee break and/or lunch spot. Working in the city means I can take advantage of these great little finds (when the opportunity arises of course).

Double Barrel

We make sure we arrive before peak hour so that we can avoid all the traffic and grab a seat as it’s quite limited.

Double Barrel - Window

Today the display was looking a little sad but there was enough for us to have a bite. We were hoping for the much talked about reuben sandwich to be on the menu but sadly it wasn’t at the time. Sigh.

Double Barrel - Subs

Our options. Luckily there were three of us. It only made sense to get one of each.

Double Barrel - Lamb & Pork

Left: Slow Roasted Lamb $9.50; Right: Pulled Pork $9.50

P and I decide to go halvies. I opt for the slow roasted lamb with a lemon, onion and parsley salad which had a pleasant suprise of fetta scattered throughout which bursted a little. A great tasting sub that didn’t let off that strong lamb flavour.

On the other hand, P goes for the pulled pork sandwich with chipotle mayo and avocado. The pork had a great depth of flavour (to our suprise was not dry at all) and that chipotle mayo was out of this world. The combo was just delicious.

Double Barrel - Brisket

Beef Brisket Sub $9.50

The man goes for the beef brisket sub with smoked tomatoes, caramelised onions and horseradish creme. This was the hands down winner! The brisket just packed a punch with the flavour, and I really think it had the perfect accompaniments. It was unbelievable how moreish the beef brisket was. To understand the full effect, you must try it out!

I was really suprised at how great all the subs ended up tasting. At first glance I thought it was going to be dry and perhaps old, but no, they were rather fresh and the flavours are really thought through. Good work, Double Barrel!

It was a quick lunch and am definitely planning a return to get a coffee and hopefully the infamous reuben sandwich next time. Please oh please be on the menu again? Thanking you.

The Reuben is pretty good here, as is the coffee. I always forget about these guys as a lunch option as they’re only a few blocks from work.

Great find! There are so many new little coffee/sub places around York St, it’s fantastic that you found such a good one.

    I love pulled pork!!! YUM!
I am really pleased you said they were good subs, from the images it looked like there was too much bread for the really tiny amount of filling… and only three choices is a little sad… it is very lucky they were all delicious :)

I do love this place. At first I thought the bread was a bit tough-looking, but it is just perfectly crusty and soft. I’m yet to try their coffee as well!
