42 hours in Las Vegas, California

6 Feb

I have to be completely honest with you. Eating was not on the agenda during my weekend bender in Las Vegas. Despite there being a ridiculous amount of things that were on my to eat list, it wasn’t a priority this time around. It was all about the fun and spending time with my oh so awesome family.

Las Vegas

Welcome to Las Vegas! Yep, ok so if you can recall my In-N-Out post, we actually drove from LA to Vegas. Why do I have this photo at the airport? Well, it was taken upon leaving Sin Sity, but I thought it’d be a great welcome photo anyways.

After about a 5 hour drive and the quickest 1.5 hours pitt stop at the Premium Outlets, we have arrived at our destination. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas…. right?

I wasn’t kidding when I said that eating was not on the agenda. We barely had a propper meal. We didn’t even have dinner upon arrival. After a night of clubbing the boy and I ever so geniusly decide to walk back to our hotel (we were at the opposite end of the strip). 10 minutes.. 20 minutes.. 40 minutes.. an hour and still only about 3/4 of the way there, yep our feet were sore and our bellies were growling, even at 3am in the morning.

Seems all diners/cafes are full and we’re not interested in waiting. We walk into what looks like a food court and spot a pizzeria. Sold.

Good2Go - Giant Pizza - Pepperoni

Pepperoni Jumbo $3.95

Good2Go sells quick and easy food, namely to cater for post partying cravings. I don’t know if it was because we were that hungry, but these jumbo pizza slices tasted so good. Thin base with a generous amount of topping. And to my suprise, they tasted quite fresh!

Good2Go - Giant Pizza - Cheese

Cheese Jumbo $3.15

Can’t ever go wrong with a cheese pizza.

Earl of Sandwich

Our next day of eats consists only of Earl of Sandwich. Why? It was easy access, quick, cheap and great tasting - the only criteria necessary when you’re in no condition for anything else.

Earl of Sandwich - Full Montagu

The Full Montagu

Earl of Sandwich - Full Montagu

This sub was filled with freshly roasted beef, turkey, aged swiss cheddar, lettuce, roma tomatoes & the Earl’s mustard sauce. A hot, moreish sandwich with all the goods that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Earl of Sandwich - Carribean Jerk Chicken

Caribbean Jerk Chicken

Earl of Sandwich - Carribean Jerk Chicken

A much more simple sub with chunky bits of grilled chicken, roasted banana peppers and spicy jerk sauce yet was just as tasty as the Full Montagu. The spicy jerk sauce really brought it all together, and definitely gave the sub that caribbean feel.

Earl of Sandwich - Hawaiian BBQ

Hawaiian BBQ

Earl of Sandwich - Hawaiian BBQ

A tropical sub with grilled chicken, roasted ham, aged swiss, fresh pineapple and hawaiian BBQ sauce. It definitely felt like we were eating a hawaiian bbq pizza from Pizza Hut, but on a gourmet scale. That Hawaiian BBQ sauce hit this sub out of the ball park.

Earl of Sandwich

Original. Simple. Worthy.

No other three words can be used to descrive the Earl of Sandwich. It is exactly what it is. I must add that the bread used is crunchy on the outside but incredibly soft and fluffy on the inside with a little bit of sweetness. It makes every bite of a sub that much more enjoyable, and you do not get the feeling of being overloaded with carbs.

Planet Dailies - Entertainment

A day and a half later, it’s time for the Boy and I to depart Sin City. We of course have to find some breakfast so drop by at the Planet Dailies, in The Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino.

Planet Dailies - Big Breakfast

Big Breakfast??

Ok so I couldn’t find what this dish on the menu but it’s pretty clear what’s on it. Super crispy bacon, wedges, toast and 2 over-easy eggs. Just the breakfast I needed after the weekend, but also the breakfast that tipped me over the edge….

Planet Dailies

American eggs feel much smaller than what we have here in Australia. It seems like 2 of their eggs is quivalent to one of ours. The only way I like to eat my eggs in the states is over-easy. It is very similar to a sunny side up egg, but it is cooked on both sides with the yolk remaining runny. Mmm, yolk ooze.

Planet Dailies - Chicken and Waffles

Chicken & Waffle

The Boy has to, of course, try the belgian waffle served with southern-fried chicken and a side of honey butter. Although the chicken had a great seasoned batter, it was dry and just didn’t eat well with the waffles. The waffles alone were wonderful and fresh. Together, it made us frown. Oh well, next time perhaps?

After 42 hours in Vegas, it was time for the Boy and I to move onto our next destination – San Francisco. We only flew in to watch a NFL game but it was well worth every cent spent to see the expression on his face when we were at the game.

I’m pretty danged jealous too. I would LOVE to go to the States, I’m dying to go. And to see an NFL game, that’s awesome.

an NFL game is a must, if it is in season. Otherwise an NBA game would be just as amazing!

Yum American sandwiches are awesome! Love the bread and the very generous amount of filling in them too! :D

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 10 February, 2013 at 11:25 PM #

Couldn’t agree more. I do find that their bread is slightly sweeter but it works so well with the mass amounts of filling. No complaints here ;)

I didn’t really have any amazing food experiences in Vegas either. Lots of buffets but other than that, nothing outstanding. Can’t believe you guys even thought to walk the strip!!

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 10 February, 2013 at 11:26 PM #

There are plenty of places off the strip. So sad I missed out. Next time..

What a lot of food and such big servings! I would love 42 hours in Vegas – I’ve never been there!

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 10 February, 2013 at 11:27 PM #

I have to say I did spend most of my time partying and/or recovering, which is why my stay in vegas seemed so short!

OMG wow 42 hours in Vegas! I would love to just spend 24 hours hahaha and even though you say food wasn’t really on the agenda! Everything still looks pretty damn delicious and i’ve never thought of having waffles with fried chicken :D

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 10 February, 2013 at 11:27 PM #

You’ve never heard of the chicken and waffles combo? It’s the american dish to have! Gasps!

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 10 February, 2013 at 11:28 PM #

Sooo cheap for those massive slices of pizza! And waffles and chicken yumm. Their sandwiches look pretty epic. :) And sometimes when you’re travelling around it is easier to put aside all the eating and concentrate on the trip itself :)

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 10 February, 2013 at 11:30 PM #

Yeah thats what happened this leg of the trip. OF course eating is an important aspect, but sometimes so is the time that you have in each place. We definitely made the most of Vegas anyways, and even though I wish I had more time to eat out, I had the best time!

  13. irene 12 February, 2013 at 3:54 PM #

I love those kind of sandwiches with thick bread that still looks crispy!
    yumyumyum

Driving to Nevada is awesome and then to come across Las Vegas brash and bold in the middle of the desert is amazing. Glad you had fun.
