Golden King 2000, Green Valley

29 Jan

Do you have a go to restaurant that is a favourite amongst the family? I think my family may have just found another to add to our list – Golden King 2000, a Chinese restaurant located in Green Valley (Sydney South West). We recently paid a visit for my birthday in December and again a couple of weeks ago to celebrate my parent’s wedding anniversary. We pretty much ordered the same things on both occasions so I think that’s saying something…

Golden King 2000

Golden King 2000 is located amongst a small shopping village in Green Valley and is very easy to locate.

Golden King 2000 - Oysters with Vermicelli and XO sauce

Oysters with vermicelli and xo sauce (market price)

The eldest sister and I order for the family – 10 adults and 4 kids. This probably wasn’t the best idea to leave it to us. You’ll see why at the end. We start with steamed juicy and plump oysters with vermicelli and the oh so flavoursome xo sauce. We paid $36 for a dozen on the night.

Golden King 2000 - Hong Kong Style Crab

Hong Kong Style Crab (market price)

Not realising that this choice of sauce was the chilliest one, the poor nephews couldn’t have any and they love crab – oops sorry little ones. But let me tell you it is the best sauce you can get here with crab. It’s spicy, it’s sweet, it’s sticky, IT’S GOOD!

Golden King 2000 - Hong Kong Style Crab

How can I not give you a close up of the crab goodness? The best thing was that the crab meat was so tender and succulent, especially in the claws which are my favourite bits! Mmmm.

Golden King 2000 - E Fu Noodles

E Fu noodles served with our crab for an extra $5

You couldn’t see the noodles in the two photos above as there were 2 kilos of crab sitting on top. On the night we paid $135 for 2 kilos of mud crab.

Golden King 2000 - Shandong Chicken

Shandong Chicken $13.90

Twice cooked chicken served with a black vinegar dressing is just about the favourite non seafood dish amongst my family. We get so greedy we actually order 2 servings. To be honest, Golden King 2000 is the only place I’ve had shandong chicken and I’m happy for it to remain that way because the chicken is absolutely heavenly as is and I don’t want to try it anywhere else!

Golden King 2000 - Mixed Vegetables

Stir Fry Mixed Vegetables $10.50

There’s always a need for some mixed vegetables.

Golden King 2000 - Pork Mince with Round Beans in XO Sauce

Pork Mince with Round Beans in XO Sauce $10.90

The xo component was very similar to that of the oysters. You can’t ever go wrong with anything xo flavoured.

Golden King 2000 - Seafood Bean Curd in Hot Pot

Seafood Bean Curd in Hot Pot $16

I think my sister and I feel guilty about all the meat dishes we order so we get a 3rd vegetable dish.

Golden King 2000 - Salt & Pepper Calamari

Salt & Pepper Calamari $??

My family have a weakness for salt and pepper calamari. Tender pieces of calamari are coated in a light crispy batter, tossed generously in salt and pepper.

Golden King 2000 - Sweet & Sour Pork

Sweet & Sour Pork $11.30

It’s very rare for our family to have sweet and sour pork outside of home, but this is an exception. Golden King 2000 really make a darn good sweet and sour pork. The batter retains its crunch, even after being drenched in the well balanced sweet and sour sauce. Right to the very last piece do the pork pieces stay crunchy. Incredible.

Golden King 2000 - Special Fried Rice

Large Special Fried Rice $7.70

Fried rice cooked with char siu, prawns and chicken on a large plate only costs us a mere $7.70. I really don’t think you can get much better value than that.

Golden King 2000 - Our feast

Our Family Feast

Turns out the big sister and I over compensate haha. We like to say that we always prefer more food than too little, and anything excess can be taken away. My brother shakes his head in disbelief with how much food we had ordered at the start.

I think the food at Golden King 2000 is awesome for a local Chinese restaurant in its area. It always tastes amazing (consistency wins me over) and it doesn’t burn a hole in your wallet. My parents are the biggest critics of Chinese food, especially because they can just cook it at home, but they really enjoy eating here so that must be a good thing.

If you’re ever around the area, be sure to drop by. Get the hong kong style crab and the shandong chicken for me please. I promise it will not disappoint.

Yes! I love this place too! My aunt lives down the road from this place. My dad, like your parents, are fussy when it comes to Chinese food (esp when eating out) and will always vote to come to this place every time!

Hahahah I’m sure there are other great places nearby. I think they’re everywhere. Just a matter of trying to find them!

Believe it or not, I’ve never ever had sweet and sour pork in a Chinese restaurant before. I’ve had all the other dishes you ordered, though, and don’t they look fantastic.

My dad refuses to order sweet and sour pork out. But the nephews love it so ordered it. And for the fact that dad tried it and gave it two thumbs up, I think that’s definitely saying something.

LOL! I am absolutely sold! I have pinned it to restaurants I have to visit and put it on my Urbanspoon wish list… Now I just need to get my butt there and enjoy all that gorgeous food!

I don’t think I’ll ever be in Green Valley anytime soon, or ever, but I seriously like the look of everything you guys had. Especially the crab and those noodles! Oh, and the oysters!

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 31 January, 2013 at 11:33 AM #

Haha at least you’re honest! There isn’t much else in the area, unless you’re nearby Liverpool or Cabramatta. But there’s already so much food that needs to be eaten in that area.
