Street Sliders Food Truck

18 Jan

It’s been a while since my last food truck hunt. It was announced sometime in December that Street Sliders were going to hit the Parramatta streets so it’s great to see that a suburb out west is adopting the food culture that the Sydney CBD has been so fond of lately. Why should the westies miss out? For January 2013 only, The Food Truck Revolution featuring the below food trucks will park themselves at Church Street Mall, Parramatta and serve up their street food. Schedules are posted up by the participating food trucks so make sure you follow them on facebook for any updates.

Street Sliders Food Truck

Street Sliders is the first (of the bunch, I hope) food truck that I get my hands on as part of the Food Truck Revolution

Street Sliders - Counter

There’s a window for ordering and picking up your food giving the chefs time to make the food to order as it makes its way from one window to another.

The full menu

Street Sliders - Availability

Food Trucks have limited quantities of food as they are essentially running in a portable kitchen. What Street Sliders have done is show what’s remaining of each item on a monitor right next to the ordering window. Genius idea, I’d say. To our great sadness, half the things were sold out by the time we got there.

Street Sliders - Duo Combo

Duo Combo + a Side + Drink $12

Since there were only 2 types of sliders available, it made sense to get the duo combo. I really wanted the salad crunch but the lady before me got the last one (I was devastated) so we had to go with the french fries as a side, which were generously seasoned, however a little soggy. If you’re a fan of soggy chips, they’re a real winner though ;) We got a Sancho Slider (pictured in front) with a juicy beef pattie, avocado, corn salsa, sour cream and pickled jalapenos served on a mini brioche bun – score!

Street Sliders - Sancho

The Smoke Slider was filled with moreish eggplant, mozzarella, red onion, lettuce with a luscious balsamic glaze.

Street Sliders - Corn Elote

Corn Elota $3.50

A cob of corn is cooked on the grill, slathered with their secret sauce, spices with lots of cheeeeeeeeeeeese on top. A bit messy to eat but a great snack at that.

Corn Elote

The pulled back corn husks made a great handle
(and it looks like I have a chicken wing………)

The Boy and I are just impressed with the food trucks that have been roaming our streets already. We’ve had 3 unexpectedly tasty meals from these trucks and we are only looking forward to devouring more.

The Food Truck Revolution schedule for tonight (18/01/13) and tomorrow (19/01/13):

Friday 18th January 2013 - Jafe Jaffles
Saturday 19th January 2013 - Tsuru Food Truck, Al Carbón – Taquería Móvil, Urban Pasta Food Truck

And next week:

chocolatesuze tried the other two burgers and the salad that I missed out on. Pop on over and have a look!

I’ve been watching The Great Food Truck Race and it’s fascinating to see what they contend with! :D

Australia have a long way to go in terms of food trucks compared to America! They are amazing.

Sliders are just too cute! Still haven’t visited any Sydney food trucks :( A trip will eventually come soon!!

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 31 January, 2013 at 10:59 AM #

It is hard to “stalk” them. There’s so many to try but it is a bit of luck in terms of if you’re nearby or not. There’s so many I still need to get my hands on!

We tried this truck on their first night in Parra – I LOVED the eggplant slider and the corn…really tasty stuff!

Have to agree. I may have preferred the veggie slider over the beef one!!

I still haven’t tried any of Sydney’s food trucks! The slides look really good though, and so does the corn with the huge amounts of cheeeeeeese

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 31 January, 2013 at 11:00 AM #

I am shocked jacq! Haha but it is a little hard as you need to hunt them down. They aren’t always in a convenient location..

Oh, the street of Paramatta. We used to eat there a lot and shopped at the Westfields. Pretty awesome.

Love your photos, plus those menu shoots, keep us informed about the daily life back home.

You must not be a local anymore? Parramatta sure has transformed over the years and its only going to continue!!

      • A Midnight Visitor 31 January, 2013 at 12:37 PM #

Yep, we live in Jakarta, Indonesia now.

But we probably will move back to Sydney next year. So excited!

OMG! Looks so good! When I was looking at the menu I hoped that you had tried the eggplant slider as that would have been my pick with the gooey mozzarella cheese.

How stressful standing in a line and watching the order count for your favourite burger and then to have it sell out right before you :0!

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 31 January, 2013 at 11:01 AM #

I was so devastated. And I went only an hour after service. I suppose you have to get in quick to get the best options!

      Eggplant slider FTW ;)

the salsa inside the slider looks so good!

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 31 January, 2013 at 11:05 AM #

They sure are the next IT thing. Looking forward to seeing what this leads to

It must be hard for you to locate. I don’t think there are any council approved locations near you is there?

Since EDB12 I am addicted to eating corn like this. SO easy and so satisfying. Just don’t forget the tooth picks!

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 31 January, 2013 at 11:28 AM #

Hahaha yes. Tooth picks and floss are a must! I need to try making this at home.

  14. Annie 28 January, 2013 at 10:15 PM #

Those sliders look so delish! Nice to see some food truck action in the West. Looking forward to trying this out soon.

Hahaha I love that photo of you and the massive corn! Food trucks are such the IT thing but I haven’t really jumped on the band wagon yet…not sure why :) Will have to change that soon~

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 31 January, 2013 at 11:36 AM #

Haha it’s street food at a dearer price. It’s the novelty I think. For me it depends what’s on the menu ;)
