That’s a Wrap of 2012

31 Dec

I cannot believe that we are here again saying goodbye to another year and welcoming a new one. 2012 went by so very quickly that I find it hard to believe I’m doing a recap… already! Last year I did a highlight of each month but I thought to take a slightly different approach this time. This food blog may be predominantly restaurant review orientated but I am taking a few steps back to where it all came from and what has made me appreciate food over the years is as simple as the food I have been served up at home.

I am absolutely spoilt to the moon and back with Vietnamese food. I have definitely taken my parents for granted for all these years and never have I been more appreciative and thankful now for what they know and do. I don’t ever ask for anything, and I used to complain all the time about what they cooked for me as a kid, but not anymore. This year was a year of cooking, baking and experimenting in the kitchen for me and from that, I realised my parents cook from their heart and everything they do is done out of love. There’s hardly any dishes I don’t like to eat but being my parents, of course they know what brings a smile to my face.

My dad is a true legend. He knows how to cook a lot, and I mean a lot, of Vietnamese dishes. I truly aspire to know what he knows one day. Above you will see dishes like pho, bun bo hue, mi xao dong, ca nuong, bun chao tom, banh xeo, banh khot, chicken curry, wontons etc. Let’s not forget Mum also as she is the bomb diggity at making asian desserts. I especially love her coconut and pandan jelly, it is seriously out of this world!!!

baking

2012 saw me enter a world where I always had a liking for but was always scared to commit to. Yes, I have found my passion for baking and it seems to only get stronger by the day. My biggest inspirations come from StephRaspberri Cupcakes who is closely knit with Karen @ Citrus and Candy & Lisa @ Spicy Icecream, and Jacq @ Penguin Says Feed Me who are all just outright amazing at what they do. No explanation is necessary because if you already follow them it surely is no wonder why I admire them so. Catch me on instagram to see what ideas I get running through my head.

This year saw lots of restaurant openings and sadly, closures of someFood trucks struck the Sydney streets and the frozen yoghurt craze has taken the city by a storm. Alongside these foodie adventures, I traveled overseas to two amazing countries. There’s still a backlog of posts to come but they will pushed out, eventually. It sure has been a fantastic year and only looking forward to another year ahead.

I would like to say THANK YOU to all the readers out there for your ongoing support throughout the year. I appreciate the time taken to read my nonsense posts and the comments made. 2012 has definitely been a memorable one, especially with all the eating adventures, baking escapades and even down to the awesome friendships developed. I am looking forward to finishing 2012 off with a bang and ringing in 2013 with a pop!

Happy New Year, everybody! Stay safe and hope to see you again sometime soon! =)

xx

    Dear Tina,

There is so much awesomeness in your wrap up of Vietnamese food. My favourites are definitely pho and mi bo kho as I prefer noodles to rice dishes.

It’s great to come from a family where your parents are such good cooks. I certainly appreciate my mum and grandma’s cooking a lot more now than when I was a kid.

    Have a great 2013!
