A glorious summer day calls for a lunch time walk to Chinatown to one of the new kids on the block. We make our way to Home Cafe (Wine Bar) which is one of 3 Home establishments (Home Thai and Home Cafe, QVB)
Home Cafe (Wine Bar) is split into 2 levels. The ground floor is more of the cafe spot where you can grab your morning coffee and some breaky, or have some brunch/lunch throughout the day with coffee is served until late. The top level (which I will have to return to try) serves lunch and dinner and offers a thai inspired menu.
Skim Mocha with an oh so beautiful Swan
Holy Chermola $17
Recommended by our awesome waiter, we order the Holy Chermola which is a plate of fried king prawns with a delicate chermola, parsely, corriander, cumin, lemon and lime juice, saffron, tarragon and market veggies on top of an egg white omelette. Sound heavy? Not at all!
Egg Ooze!
There was a mass variety of fresh, seasonal vegetables and the king prawns had absorbed all the flavours of the chermola which is a mediterranean type marinade. We were joyful over the egg white omelette as it is a great source of protein (gym fanatic talk right here haha). This plate was licked clean because that’s how much we liked it.
The Three Amigos $15
A trio of mini burgers is served on a chopping board (love this type of presentation). First we have a chicken burger with an apple coleslaw and bbq mayo which was a cold sandwich. Next we have the duck burger with chinese red salad and sweet plum dressing. It was my absolute favourite because of the juicy duck meat and it paired so well with the delicious plum sauce. Lastly we have the classic beef burger with cheese and tomato chutney, which was good but nothing spectacular.
Big thanks to Raff for introducing me to this great little find and for taking me for my birthday :) Looking forward to making a return to try the thai food served up on the second level.

Duck burger! We need a better burger place here in Bris! Jealous…
It was a great burger but there needs to be more of it. Not many places I know do duck burgers come to think of it ..
I love all the quirky names for the dishes, the three Amigos, Holy Chermola LOL! So amusing and so delicious looking :)
Hahaha definitely an interesting read when going through the item! Love the playfulness.
I like that there are three different types of burgers-the more to sample the better! :D
I definitely think so too. It’s almost like a sample plate, however does get a little difficult to share….
I swear I’m one of the few Sydney food bloggers that hasn’t been to Home yet. The Holy chermola sounds amazing!
I felt that way prior to making the visit. I definitely am looking forward so I can try the upstairs level. I only hear about the thai tapas that they serve
