I absolutely love the dining precinct at Westfield Sydney. Given it’s location in the Sydney CBD, I think it was the perfect idea to create a dining experience with actual restaurants and not just with a food court especially beyond the trading hours of a shopping mall. I am slowly trying to make my way through Level 6 and Chat Thai has now been ticked off the list.
Located on Level 6, Chat Thai is constantly busy during lunch and dinner service. It seems to be no different with all their other branches. We go for a dinner seating and unfortunately have to wait a fair bit for a table. I would highly recommend booking beforehand to avoid any lengthy waits.
The only other exposure I’ve had to the Chat Thai group is quick takeaway for lunch at The Galleries Victoria branch which is situated within a food court, so I was excited to have a sit down feed.
I love these cups. They definitely add to the experience and are a bit of fun.
Som Dtum Thai $14
We start off with a green papaya salad with peanuts and dried shrimp. It combines the spice, salty and sweet flavours which was perfectly balanced. A great refreshing way to start our dinner.
Yum Woon Sen $18
We thought we would try something different with a salad of glass noodles with minced chicken, calamari, mussels and prawns. This was another refreshing salad which got our taste buds going, particularly with the spicy lemon dressing. I’m a sucker for thai food because I love how flavours are so well developed.
Bped Mar Kham $18
We diverge away from the normal dishes we always seem to order when having Thai and go with something completely different. We actually get won over by the pictures on the menu (sometimes this makes things so much easier). The roasted duck breast is cooked and served with a caramelised tamarind sauce. We are blown away with the presentation as the duck pieces were piled mountain high in a pool of the glossy taramind sauce. The duck pieces were very tender with the skin still cripsy and had absorbed all the flavour of the tamarind.
Gaeng Kaew Gai $16
There’s one dish that we always have to order when eating thai, that is a curry. We opt for the chicken green curry with apple eggplants, kaffir lime leaves and basil. A comforting mild curry is generously filled with tender pieces of chicken and an array of vegetables which does not dissapoint.
Our table tiny table filled with plenty of food
Overall, we were very impressed with the quality of food, portions and services here at Chat Thai. All the flavours really excelled in flavour and that’s always a two thumbs up for the boy and I. It’s a pity that the sticky rice and mango dessert is seasonal so was not avaiable at the time that I went. Considering it is now on the back end of Spring and Summer only days away with mangoes already in season, I think this would be a massive hit. Make sure you get your fix and please do let me know how good it is.

Mmm yum! I’ve been to the one in Manly but this one seems to be in a different league! That duck looks fantastic! and great photos too :)
I would have thought they would have been similar??!
The duck with caramelises tamarind sauce does look and sound good!
Your kind of dish, raff!
Yes, that level 6 area is fantastic, especially since they have such good-quality restaurants there. The dishes you had at Chat Thai look really summery – and spicy/tasty!
I really appreciate that Westfield have implemented such an idea. They really thought it through as to which restaurants to have operate. Only a few more to go til I knock them all down :)
You have to try the desserts at Chat Thai – particularly anything with coconut because they taste amazing! I’m a huge fan of Thai curries and that one looks so delicious. As does your mountain of duck!
I know, I must! Even if I wanted dessert that evening that I went, it just wasn’t the right season :(
Looks delicious! That is one of the places I haven’t eaten in the Westfield, so this makes me want to check it out :)
Definitely check it out. You will not be disappointed :)
i absolutely cannot wait to get my fix of mangoes and sticky rice!
I think I want a fix today. Now. 7.30 am lol
Great photos!
I ruvvv <3 chat thai!!!
Yay for mango!! Need to get there to try their sticky rice with mango…now I'm hungry lol!
The duck looks amazing by the way!
If you want to try their noodle dishes – egg noodles with duck is my mum's absolute favourite!! ;)
Thanks Ming! I definitely will be going to try the dessert. Might have to take away so I can have it for lunch today haha
Ooh it looks like you chose well! :D And their dessert menu is enormous isn’t it? It just kept going and going…
It really was. I still wish the mango sticky rice was available when I went. Never fear. This just means ill have to make another trip!
Whilst I’ve been to the other city Chat Thai locations a few times, I’ve only been to this one once. I really loved the lunch I had and I’m surprised I don’t go more often as it’s really close to work. Hmmm, maybe tomorrow!
If you’re a local I think perhaps we should meet up :)
I love Chat Thai and keep going back for more!
I can see why ;p
Wah, I have never been and now I want to! x
You should you should!! ;)
I loved Chat Thai so much last time we were in Sydney :) they had a lot of Thai dishes that I haven’t had before and it was just super yummy and I thought portions were quite generous too! Really hope REALLY HOPE that they will open up in Melbourne soon xoox
You ate SO much when you ate at chat Thai. I couldn’t believe it hahha is there anything remotely similar in Melbourne?
I loved Chat Thai, done two reviews of it. One time was fab the other was average (Sat night and it was packed so maybe that’s why service wasn’t so great?). Food is usually pretty good though!
We went on a Saturday night. Despite it being busy we didn’t experience too much trouble :)
well you got me a hankerin thats for sure – me, aka henry, aka rockahenry.
Ha – I see a smirk of yours and hear the infectious laugh ;p
Given that I work so close to this place, I really should get over and try it! Looks beautiful and fresh :)
It really is. And I think for the prices it’s pretty generous with the servings! If you like the zing and spice, chat Thai is definitely for you ;)
Oh that looks so delicious!!
I never eat in shopping centres so I am really pleased you have shared this restaurant. Mr GG will have to take me there next time we are in Sydney… and I get to do some shopping too.
Love the little cups :)
There’s a whole level of restaurants in this shopping centre. It’s great, I feel like Sydney is catching up with the rest of the world who also follow this concept. :)
looks great, i love thai salads, the flavours just bring that healthy stuff alive!
It really does. Clean and simple but with bags full of flavour!
I always order what’s pictured in these gorgeous menus… I can’t seem to help it :/
My last trip to Sydney I couldn’t wait to try Chat Thai after drooling on everyone’s photos and blogs. To my sad disappointment their extensive menu could only be adapted gluten free for an exceedingly small handful of simple dishes. Weird because I find Thai food one of the easiest Asian food to do gluten free. So sad!
Aww I didn’t know that. That is a real shame :(
