Honey’s Kettle Fried Chicken, Culver City – California USA

11 Oct

Although we didn’t set out a list of all the places to eat, we were lucky enough to have our cousins take us out, pretty much everywhere! I’m one of those people who just enjoy spending time with the family. Anything else that we do is a bonus, and this includes all the glorious food!

Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken

After running some errands with my cousins, we do a lunch pit stop for some fried chicken which is proclaimed to be LA’s best fried chicken as voted by Los Angeles Magazine as per the website – ohhhh the excitement!

Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken - Menu

For a fried chicken place, there seems to be lots of varieties, and that’s always a good thing!

L.A. made out of complimentary condiments – there’s hot sauce, bbq sauce and a honey syrup for the buttermilk biscuits to come.

Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken - Lemonade

When you ask for lemonade in America, you do not get soft drink or soda. You get fresh lemonade! It was the best!

Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken - Buttermilk Biscuits

I believe this was some family pack with fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits and fries. This was the first time I’ve had a biscuit and let me tell you, I fell in love. A biscuit, for those who don’t know, is an American staple and is almost like a scone but a little more on the sweeter side. It is meant to be a very tender and quite fluffy. And boy, this one sure was! It paired perfectly with the honey syrup. Amazing.

Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken

These golden pieces of deliciousness is just everything you want in freshly fried chicken. That beautiful crunch sound as you take a bite with the tender and juicy chicken squirting out meat juices on your lips. Even the batter was seasoned perfectly which added some extra heavenly flavour.

Biggie couldn’t agree more with what I’m about to say but that really was the best ever fried chicken we’ve ever eaten – it surely beats anything we’ve had in Australia! I think Honey’s Kettle has set the bar for fried chicken. It will be an interesting challenge to see who else can meet the standard, or even supersede it!

I have wanted to try American fried chicken for some time! Scotty was trying to explain ‘biscuits’ to me the other day co-incidentally. Sounds like one of those things you have to try yourself to understand. Nom nom…

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 17 October, 2012 at 7:16 AM #

I have to agree with you on that one. The concept and taste is a little hard to explain but it will make sense when you eat it. Shame that its not available here to try. Well, at least not that I know of

Completely agree about spending time with the family! But…food always seems to be the central theme to family get togethers hehe!
I don’t think I’ll ever see fried chicken the same way again!! How will we ever get it as good as the US in Sydney??!! Not fair haha. Very jealous that you’ve tried this greatness!!

I was shocked when I first got to Australia and asked for lemonade, only to recieve Sprite. Cultural confusion!

    Also OMG Chicken.

    • Tina @ bitemeshowme 14 November, 2012 at 11:24 PM #

It was confusing for me to go over to the states and ask for lemonade and get a home made drink. I actually think it turned out for the better though :P
