Big Bite on Pitt, Sydney CBD

10 Feb

It is often really hard to decide what to have for lunch everyday especially for those located in Sydney CBD. There are just so many decisions! But not only that, it can be really stressful on your wallet. And so when I find a good feed under $10 in the city, I am a happy camper.

Big Bite on Pitt

I had heard so much about Big Bite’s infamous grilled lamb sandwiches. They only appear on the menu on Thursdays and apparently sell out very quickly. Luckily for me, a friend ordered us both one via phone earlier that morning and so when arriving at 12pm on the dot, we skipped the queue and headed straight to the counter. Gosh, I love when that happens – zero wait time.

Big Bite on Pitt - Sandwich

This is the Thursday Special – a grilled lamb sandwich ($9.50 – what a friggen bargain!!!) on brown bread (optional) with lettuce, tomato, tabouli and mayo. You can’t really see the size of the sandwich from this photo but no kidding, it is bigger than the size of my face!

Big Bite on Pitt - Sandwich Innards

Look at the innards of that sandwich – absolutely devine! That’s me holding one half of the sandwich with one hand. I could barely hold it as it was that big. Some bits fell out as I was taking the photo :( Not only were the slices of bread big, there was so much filling. I LOVE IT!

Everything about the grilled lamb sandwich is perfect. The bread is nice and crusty on the outside, fluffy and soft on the inside. All salads were clean and fresh and there was lots of it. The grilled lamb was cooked to absolute perfection – it was not chewy at all – and the best bit is that there wasn’t too much fatty bits. The marinade is so flavoursome and has a slightly sweet taste. I’m not a huge eater during lunch time but I gobbled that sandwich down in no time. It is a little messy but it’s sooooooooooooooooooooo worth it.

If you do not want to miss out on trying this fabulous grilled sandwich Thursday lunch special, make sure you order via phone in advance! Queues do get very long despite it being tucked away in an unnoticable alley on Pitt Street, and there is limited seating as it is only a small sandwich bar/espresso cafe .

If I wasn’t so greedy half the sandwich would have been enough :p

I think I’ve been to this place. They had a rosemary meatball sammich and I thought I’d died.

Actually, the CBD is a bit of a black hole in terms of non food court lunch options.

I have yet to hear about or try that one. I may just have to hunt that one down.

I agree on the idea of phone and pick up! It saves me so much time! Such a bummer that I always miss out on the lamb special everytime I go =(

I love a good sandwich. I used to go to Kingslane Sandwiches but now I’ve moved away from the neighbourhood, I don’t get to go there anymore! Half was enough and they put potato salad in the sandwich, potato salad!!

I’ve been here on my lunch break when I used to work at ACP magazines and the line is always super long during lunch time, phoning ahead is the way to go :) Haven’t tried the lamb special but it does look good

For such a little place I’m surprised at its popularity. But with the quality of food and quantity for the price, I can see why it’s so good!
