Sitney Thai, Canley Vale

7 Dec

Another Thai restaurant has opened its doors in the booming area of Canley Vale on Canley Vale Road. The original Sitney Thai restaurant first opened up in Parramatta so it’s great to see restaurants expanding its doors in different areas.

Sitney Thai

Several friends and I come to Sitney to catch up and try out the place (a little bit confused as the menu says Thai and Laos cuisine whereas the website said Thai.. hmmm). For a Thursday night, it sure does look busy. Luckily for us though we get a table for four straight away and it was the last avilable table. Cheering.

Sitney Thai - Bowl

Thought it was awesome that Sitney personalised all their bowls and plates with their logo.

Sitney Thai - Beef Salad

Beef Salad $9.90

I have abnormal cravings for thai beef salads. I usually crave the spice, the zing and the juicyness of the trips of beef. This salad didn’t quite hit the spot. The slices of beef were slightly overcooked and dry. There wasn’t much dressing over the whole salad. And I think the lemon grass was cut up a bit too thick. Despite all of that, the salad still disappeared.

Sitney Thai - Ox Tongue

Grilled Ox Tongue

A must order every time we go to a thai/laos restaurant (as I say every time!). The ox tongue is cooked nicely with it still being juicy (though I probably do prefer it a bit less, maybe medium). The dipping sauce is something I’ve never had before – it almost was like a satay sauce. It still worked well with the ox tongue as it gave it a different flavour.

Sitney Thai - Laos Sausages

Thai/Laos Sausages

There’s nothing better than fat, juicy pieces of lao sausages! The dipping sauce that came with the sausages is more like a nuc cham (vietnamese dipping sauce) than the thai/laos one that it usually comes with.

Sitney Thai - Seafood Pad See Ew

Seafood Pad See Ew $15.90

The dish does taste like your average pad see ew but it was still delicious. There was enough sweetness of the soya sauce which helped the caramelisation of the seafood and noodles. There was flavour and the seafood was cooked nicely – everything was still succulent and juicy.

Sitney Thai - Chicken Green Curry

Chicken Green Curry $16.90

Green curry is almost like comfort food – very hard to go wrong. The dish was filled with chicken chunks and lots of veggies! I loved the touch of coconut cream on the top. My only downfall was that I wish there was more of the curry. I’m one of those that could almost drink curries because I enjoy eating it so much. I probably could have downed this baby all on my own, instead of sharing with 3 others.

With so much competition around about the Canley Vale area, this is a contender with the rest of them; Thai-Namic and in Canley Heights, Holy Basil.

There’s nothing quite like a nicely executed beef salad is there? I love it when the beef is tender :)

I think it depends on how much coconut they use.. I’ve had green curries that were like a pale white. I asked them if they were sure it was green curry too!!

I was so close to misschu before in darlinghurst. Now its so far :(
