El Jannah, Granville

25 Oct
I love having impromptu dinner night with friends. Most of the time, though, we can barely make up our minds on where to eat. It was too easy for us this time round, with the choicing of hitting up some charcoal chicken with garlic sauce! Mmmm. Where do we go to fet our fix? El Jannah in Granville! Although there is this joint in Fairfield that is almost just as good, if not on par, but I need to make a return there and taste test it again before I can say more.

El Jannah

Friday nights can get really busy and you may find yourself eyeing and staring people down just to swoop in and get their tables as they’ve finished eating. Luckily for us we had no troubles getting a table. It would have been a different story had we arrived 15 minutes later.

El Jannah

There’s really only one thing we order on the menu – the charcoal chicken – as this is what they are known for. Between the 5 of us we ordered 2 whole chickens. We got the meals so it came with the sides (raddish, pickles and the lebanese bread) and drool-worthy garlic sauce. We couldn’t not get a bowl of fries to share so we got a large one! (I love my hot chips). I think the chicken was a little dry this time round, but luckily the garlic sauce was there to moisten it up again. Two plates of garlic sauce between the five of us was barely enough. I absolutely love the stuff and could eat it with everything if I could.

El Jannah - Hot Chips Wrap

Something interesting that caught Biggie’s eye was the “Hot Chips Roll” which was a wrap using lebanese bread filled with hot chips, coleslaw, pickles, garlic sauce and tomato sauce. Really, he noticed it because he knows I am a lover of hot chips. Isn’t he sweet. The verdict? It was definitely interesting. We smashed it. It did taste really good, however, it was just a little harsh on the throat as it heavy and dry, especially with the fries as you’re eating about 6 chips in the one go. What made it amazing was how toasty El Jannah’s made the wrap. You can hear the crunch as you bite into it.

It’s 8.40am and now I’m craving some garlic sauce. Bet that wouldn’t go down too well with the colleagues……

It’s so good, but glad I shared it. Had I eaten the whole thing, I don’t think I would have been able to swallow anything after it… :S

Such a shame you live so far. I’m sure there are similar things nearby? The garlic sauce is so good that I even just dip bits of the lebanese bread in the garlic sauce lol

I haven’t been there in over 2 years! I love the way they casually plate the food and feel of the place. I still remember the garlic sauce. Fantastic! But do try the one in fairfield again, I think the chicken itself is better there.

Do you know which one I’m talking about? I think it’s called Tenders or something? It’s at the beginning of an alleyway.?
