Everyone has their local spots to eat out at. I’m quite fortunate enough to live very close to a couple of suburbs that has on offer a variety of cuisines. One that has been expanding right before my eyes is Canley Heights. With Holy Basil, Chi Chi, Twelve Spices and Noggi opening up/renovated, the suburb has become more known and talked about. Just as it should.

The Merrywell, Southbank VIC

We head towards the Crown Casino and stroll along the Southbank Promenade. It’s been 3 years since my last visit and it was amazing to see all the restaurants that are now operating. From high end restaurants, to casual dining to cafes – it caters for a range of diners. The boy opts for The Merrywell for dinner as the American inspired menu wins him over.

It’s not often the group of friends and I chill out at a bar, nibbling on some food and downing a few drinks. I suppose you could say it’s because of our location that the trek to the city does become a burden, especially with those who have to be designated drivers for the evening. But this is an exception as we are celebrating the boy’s birthday.

La Mono, Merrylands

After a session of training and running a muck on the field, a group of us toss up between El Jannah and La Mono for a fix of charcoal chicken and garlic sauce (best reward ever, right?). Purely because of our location, we head to La Mono for the convenience. Afterall, we were just down the road.
